Historic Preservation

For over 125 years, the DAR has promoted patriotism. It is the foundation of the many DAR activities that take place in our local communities across the country.

DAR members participate in a wide variety of historic preservation projects in our community, as it is crucial to saving our history for future generations.

Over the years, the Sarah Ann Cochrane Chapter, NSDAR, has donated generously to local historical organizations and preservation projects such as Greenmead Historical Park, located in Livonia, MIchigan, Mill Race Village Historical Park, located in Northville, Michigan, and the Shearer Cemetery restoration in Plymouth, Michigan.

Most recently, the Sarah Ann Cochrane Chapter, NSDAR, presented a Community Service Award for Historic Preservation in downtown Plymouth, Michigan, to local Plymouth residents for their historic preservation of the 159,000 square foot building that was going to be torn down for townhouses. It now serves as a community base for many non-profit organizations: Friends of the Rouge, Michigan Philharmonic, classrooms for the College of Creative Studies, autism therapy, theatre groups, art workshops, and so much more.
